Celebrate The Small Things: September 4, 2015



Celebrate the Small Things is hosted by Lexa Cain along with wonderful co- hosts Writing Off The Edge and The Cyborg Mom.

Looking into the last weekend of summer it's hard to find things to celebrate, the kids are all ready for school on Tuesday but we are still facing more boxes to unpack than ones that have been unpacked. :(

Fan Expo is this weekend and due to time just not being on my side we had to switch up costumes last minute.  Which at any other time would have been easy...with everything mostly still not unpacked it was interesting.  I have pieces to 7 or 8 different cosplays but only can come up with 1 complete one other than my originally planned ones.  At least that doesn't involve full, heavy make up.

What are you celebrating? Are your kids already back to school or like Cat and Ace are they enjoying one last weekend of freedom?

    I'm sorry to hear that unpacking is such a hassle. But at least you located one costume for cosplay and with the kids in school, maybe there'll be more time to get the unpacking taken care of. In a few weeks, everything will be in its new spot and you'll feel great! Have a lovely weekend!

    Sorry to hear unpacking is taking its time. If it's any consolation, I didn't unpack our last box until nearly two years after we'd moved in. It was just full of stuff I didn't need and it was easier to leave it as it was than to try and find homes for it, or make a decision about throwing it out.

    It'll all come together for you, I'm sure. :-)

Making Mac and Cheese

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

When I was much younger than I am now, I loved nothing more that a good "spooky" story.  I spent many nights laying up in bed reading books that were designed to make your skin crawl and leave you with goose bumps. My personal favourite author for Young Adult Thrillers was and probably still is Christopher Pike.  Twenty years after reading his books some of them still stand out in my mind in perfect clarity.  The top one would be Remember Me. Something about Shari's story struck a chord with me that has echoed through the last twenty years, as any good book should I suppose. Sadly when I was a teenager I didn't hold on to as many books as I do now so I spend a lot of time hunting to replace the ones I really wish I had kept. (Sweet Valley High anyone?)
