Happy New Year

 Wow, I feel like it has been a long time since I have ventured into this space.  It was a rough year for everyone and I personally could not find the desire to put my thoughts out into the world.  I want to change that this year, we were talking to Cat this morning about the importance of practice to improve at things and I felt that, if I want to be good at blogging, I need to get here and blog more, maybe not every day but at least once a week.

This year I have no new resolutions, I don't want to set my ambitions higher than I will be able to go but I do have some small general goals, write more, move more, craft more, read more and study more.  There are only so many hours in the day but I want to maximize my use of them this year to do more of the things that I enjoy.

Making Mac and Cheese

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

M is for Motherhood

This morning on my way to work I read this post from a YMC blogger and it got the wheels turning in my little brain.  First of all, why are people so mean to each other?  And second, the vast number of times I have want to set the  feral little animals  kids who call me mom at the end of the driveway with free to good home signs round their necks. The truth is though, in the moment, when there are a bottle full of snails loose in your apartment and sliming their way over everything while your son sleeps.
