B is for Books



When I was originally planning the posts for my theme I spent a lot of time thinking about the books I had read over the years.  (there were a lot)  Some stories stick with me but I can't remember the name of the book, some characters stick with me but I can't quite place their story and some books, some books are so burned in my mind that I could recite them in my sleep.

The entrance hall into my apartment looks like that picture above, it's lined with bookshelves that are literally overflowing with books.  And still I seem to have books littering every free surface in my house.  (that's not counting the kid's books, theirs are beginning to need a house of their own)  Anyhow, the avid love of reading that goes on in my house has led to a mass number of "favorite books".

So here in no particular order are my top ten favorite books (as in the first ten that came to my head)

1) The Time Traveler's Wife  by Audrey Niffenegger
           - I just read this while I was in the hospital and I fell in love with it.  

2) A Wrinkle In Time  by  Madeleine L'Engle
           - the first book I read by L'Engle, she is one of the writers that made me want to be a writer

3) A Ring Of Endless Light  by Madeleine L'Engle
           - love, love LOVE this book

4) Her Majesty's Wizard  by Christopher Stasheff

5) The Handmaid's Tale  by Margaret Atwood

6) The Edible Woman  by Margaret Atwood
            - another of my favorite authors

7) Eragon  by Christpher Paolini
            - dragons

8) The Ruins Of Ambrai  by Melanie Rawn

9) Dragon Prince  by Melanie Rawn

10) The Hobbit  by J.R.R. Tolkien
           
And like five million other books.  So what's on your list of favorite books?

    Great list of books! I'd have to add the Harry Potter books and Across the Universe series by Beth Revis, just to name a couple off the top of my head.

    Wow! Hard question. I love books too and have at least 1000 in my personal library and then another 800 or so on my kindle for PC.

    I prefer to hold a real book and read it, so don't have an ereader.

    I love anything King Arthur, but I like mysteries too, and Diana Gabaldan has a nice historical fiction series. I recently read The Help (about civil rights in the south in 1962). It was very good. I posted a review on my writing blog. But I'm doing the challenge on my other blog, which is mainly about my life and my cats.

    Oooooh, A Wrinkle In Time! Yep, definitely on my list. Lord Of The Rings, too, and The Martian Chronicles (Bradbury)--oh, and Fahrenheit 451, of course. Gabriel García Márquez's Love In Time Of Cholera--that one I can read over and over and over. House Of Spirits, Isabel Allende--another favorite to reread. Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts. The Master And Margarita, Mikhail Bulgakov. Man... the list just goes on, doesn't it?

    I would love to have bookshelves like those in the picture. I dream of having a room filled with them that I can call my library.

    I like your choice of books. The Time Traveler's Wife is one of my favourites too, though it makes me cry every tome.

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

When I was much younger than I am now, I loved nothing more that a good "spooky" story.  I spent many nights laying up in bed reading books that were designed to make your skin crawl and leave you with goose bumps. My personal favourite author for Young Adult Thrillers was and probably still is Christopher Pike.  Twenty years after reading his books some of them still stand out in my mind in perfect clarity.  The top one would be Remember Me. Something about Shari's story struck a chord with me that has echoed through the last twenty years, as any good book should I suppose. Sadly when I was a teenager I didn't hold on to as many books as I do now so I spend a lot of time hunting to replace the ones I really wish I had kept. (Sweet Valley High anyone?)
