J is for Jewelry Making

Jewelry is one of the more recent crafts I have dipped a toe into.  I used to be very intimidated by it but last year I bought these gorgeous handmade beaded anklets at a street festival and I got very inspired to give it a try.  So far I have only made a few pieces because well, I do like a million things but I love how they have turned out.
These are pictures of a set of earrings and a ring that I made for my best friend that somehow never managed to make it up on to my blog in all my bragging about neat stuff I make.  (it happens, I craft more than I blog sometimes)

    I used to do a lot of craft projects but not so many lately. I have really been craving doing something like this; maybe I'll try jewelry! Thanks for the inspiration!

Making Mac and Cheese

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

When I was much younger than I am now, I loved nothing more that a good "spooky" story.  I spent many nights laying up in bed reading books that were designed to make your skin crawl and leave you with goose bumps. My personal favourite author for Young Adult Thrillers was and probably still is Christopher Pike.  Twenty years after reading his books some of them still stand out in my mind in perfect clarity.  The top one would be Remember Me. Something about Shari's story struck a chord with me that has echoed through the last twenty years, as any good book should I suppose. Sadly when I was a teenager I didn't hold on to as many books as I do now so I spend a lot of time hunting to replace the ones I really wish I had kept. (Sweet Valley High anyone?)
