Happy November

Only four days in and already November has proven to be one of the busiest months I have encountered this year.  I decided to finally take on NaNoWrMo this year for the first time...not connecting in my head at the time that the first weekend in November was Reverse Polarity, our local con celebrating the Doctor Who 50th.

I managed to get my writing off to a healthy start, currently sitting only a few hundred words behind of my 1700 words a day goal.  Not due to the con but because Cat was fighting being sick all week and it chose Saturday night to peak and we spent some time at the doctor.  After which, of course, we were all a bit tired. 

Reverse Polarity itself was brilliant, T-con puts on a great convention.  We went to some excellent panels, and Ace was entranced with the find the clues around the con games which were included in the program. 
We didn't solve either puzzle but we had great fun seeking out the clues.

Making Mac and Cheese

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

When I was much younger than I am now, I loved nothing more that a good "spooky" story.  I spent many nights laying up in bed reading books that were designed to make your skin crawl and leave you with goose bumps. My personal favourite author for Young Adult Thrillers was and probably still is Christopher Pike.  Twenty years after reading his books some of them still stand out in my mind in perfect clarity.  The top one would be Remember Me. Something about Shari's story struck a chord with me that has echoed through the last twenty years, as any good book should I suppose. Sadly when I was a teenager I didn't hold on to as many books as I do now so I spend a lot of time hunting to replace the ones I really wish I had kept. (Sweet Valley High anyone?)
