Blogging For Books: Snack Girl To The Rescue!

I discovered Blogging For Books through an email from Random House and thought it was just my idea of the most perfect deal ever.  I could get books for free and I have to do is read them and give my honest opinion of them?  I can do that.  I am highly opinionated.

So I filled out the form, answered the many, many questions and once I was approved I went off to choose my first book.  Now there was the hard part, how did I choose from all the books there were available to read?  Luckily for me (or not so luckily depending on how you look at it) I injured my knee a few months ago and I have recently been informed that I need to keep my weight at or below what it is now while dealing with the recovery process.  So naturally the cover for Snack Girl To The Rescue! caught my eye.

Lisa Cain is the mastermind behind the popular Snack Girl site, halfway through the second chapter I subscribed to her blog.  I loved the first section of this book, she writes a very open, honest portrayal of what she has tried, what worked, what didn't, what it was like, why it didn't work.  It read like a conversation with a friend and doled out a lot of good sound advice.

Then came the recipes and the book lost it's momentum for me.  I don't know about you but I have a real love affair with food, I have been known to daydream about the lamb burgers made by a bar we frequent and I will walk MILES for the clam chowder at my favourite pub.  So a recipe book without pictures is a little hard for me to connect with.

Some of the roast vegetable recipes though were stuff I never would have thought of roasting and came out super delicious.  There's one or two more I might try but overall most of them are not for me.  The overall principals I love though.

Disclaimer: I received this book for free from Blogging For Books in exchange for an honest review.

  1. Just what I needed to know to make a decision about this book! Sounds good to me. I love all the low-cal cookbooks, but there are way to many to slog through. Suggestions are always welcome!

    Thanks!

  2. I have a love affair with food myself! Have you ever heard of Hungry Girl? Her stuff was up my alley because she found creative ways to make the food we really want to eat. Onion rings made with Bran Flakes, etc.
