Celebrate The Small Things: October 16, 2015



Celebrate the Small Things is hosted by Lexa Cain along with wonderful co- hosts Writing Off The Edge and The Cyborg Mom.

This week I am celebrating the fact that we have a balcony now, I hate when the rain wakes me up but I love watching the storms.

I am also celebrating the fact that we got the kids snowsuit purchases out of the way last weekend, I just heard we are in for flurries this weekend.  Eek!

    I do love the sound of a storm (from the security and comfort of being inside in the warm). Hope the snow isn't too deep.

    Storms are amazing to watch so yay to the nice spot to see them from. Whew to getting those snowsuits (I started eyeing them for the kids yesterday)...and here's to an easy storm!

    Congrats on your balcony and early shopping for the kids. We still have 90-degree weather here and I'd love some flurries, so you can send them to me!!!!

    Snow already? WOW! It dropped down to the 30s last night here, but no snow. And YAY to balconies!

Making Mac and Cheese

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

When I was much younger than I am now, I loved nothing more that a good "spooky" story.  I spent many nights laying up in bed reading books that were designed to make your skin crawl and leave you with goose bumps. My personal favourite author for Young Adult Thrillers was and probably still is Christopher Pike.  Twenty years after reading his books some of them still stand out in my mind in perfect clarity.  The top one would be Remember Me. Something about Shari's story struck a chord with me that has echoed through the last twenty years, as any good book should I suppose. Sadly when I was a teenager I didn't hold on to as many books as I do now so I spend a lot of time hunting to replace the ones I really wish I had kept. (Sweet Valley High anyone?)
