An Afternoon With Ace

The Wednesday after he got back from Calgary I skipped out of work for the afternoon and kept Ace back from camp and we headed out to Canada's Wonderland for the afternoon.  They are taking down the SkyRider this year and I wanted to make sure he got a chance to ride on it before they did.

I think it was fitting that my last ride on SkyRider, which has been one of my favourite roller coasters in twenty odd years of going to Wonderland was Ace's first.  He approached it very bravely given that he is not a roller coaster kid.  I got the best video of his reaction after though.

After his roller coaster experience Ace wanted to do something that was a little more his speed so he dragged me on WindSeeker.  Then proceeded to laugh his butt off while I tried not to cry for my mommy as I may have an issue or two with heights.  Revenge received.

Then we went on Time Warp for a little less scary roller coaster time for Ace, apparently this one he can handle even though you are going face first which has never been a thrill for me.  Really, it doesn't scare me but it is hard on the shoulders.  I guess it is much easier on his tiny little frame.

It was a great day out for us and a nice was to reconnect after him being away for so long.  We even spent some time just being silly.

I am going to miss SkyRider it was a huge part of my growing up as I pretty much lived at Wonderland during my teenage years but I am excited to see what they put in.

Do you have a favourite roller coaster?

  1. I squeal when Willy Dunne Wooters drives too fast around a curve. He said, Boy, you'd be a real scream at an amusement park.

  3. As a child, I loved all the roller coasters at Geauga Lake (OH) and Conneaut Lake Park (PA). I wouldn't shy away from any of them.

Then, shortly after my first two sons were born, I attended a company picnic at an amusement park. Of course, I got in line for a roller coaster and afterwards, I felt sick and the whole feeling of elation I used to have was suddenly gone. It never came back.
Weird, eh? I wonder what changed.

Glad you got to have a great time with your special little guy.
