My Favourite.... Holiday


My Favorite.. is a weekly meme hosted by Maureen’s Books. In this meme we share every week something we love with each other. Because let’s face it.. The world can be a dark place and it’s time to share something positive. For more info: My Favorite Meme.

 My favourite holiday is Halloween.  I love dressing up and seeing the kids so excited to go out and interact with the community.  I love making up little packages to give out.

 I wear two costumes at least every year.  One for work and one to take the kids out trick or treating.



I also love to see the house that really go all out decorating for Halloween.

    Halloween!! Wow!! I’m so jealous! Halloween sounds like a great holiday and I love watching Halloween movies. Here in the Netherlands we don’t celebrate Halloween. I decorate our home a little each year, but there is no trick or treating or costumes. Too bad really!
    For me Christmas is my favorite. I love the cozy, light filled homes at Christmas times. And I love spending the day and the days for and after with the people I love. It’s definitely my favorite time of year.

    I've never been a big fan of Halloween, but I had a blast this year and went all out dressing up in my Hogwarts uniform.

    Christmas is definitely my favourite holiday. I love all the build up to the day, planning and organising everything, and then the day itself.

    I like to see the kids all dressed up for Halloween. It is fun. I don't dress up, though.

Making Mac and Cheese

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

When I was much younger than I am now, I loved nothing more that a good "spooky" story.  I spent many nights laying up in bed reading books that were designed to make your skin crawl and leave you with goose bumps. My personal favourite author for Young Adult Thrillers was and probably still is Christopher Pike.  Twenty years after reading his books some of them still stand out in my mind in perfect clarity.  The top one would be Remember Me. Something about Shari's story struck a chord with me that has echoed through the last twenty years, as any good book should I suppose. Sadly when I was a teenager I didn't hold on to as many books as I do now so I spend a lot of time hunting to replace the ones I really wish I had kept. (Sweet Valley High anyone?)
