My Chocolate Fortunes....

It's Wednesday, and I am having one of those smash your head against the wall type of days.  It started with yet another war with Cat to wear her winter clothing, I may have won this time.  I put her jacket on backwards.  Sure, she screamed bloody murder all the way to daycare...but she didn't take her jacket off.
I followed that up by getting caught up in traffic and arriving at working late and coffeeless.  Not my favorite way to start the day, it leaves me feeling very edgy.  So I brewed myself a large cup of Awake tea and raided the office chocolate stash. 
Now, being a migraine sufferer there is a large list of foods I cannot eat without risk of headache.  At the top of that list (as in guaranteed, everytime) is hazelnuts.  Which makes me sad because I love them, especially in chocolate.  So, every now and then, usually when I already have a headache, or like today when my day has already gone to pot, I indulge. 
These particular chocolates came with little fortunes or rather quoted words of wisdom I thought I would share.

That last one is my favorite, I count myself lucky to have more than one friend who falls into that category.  <3

Making Mac and Cheese

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

When I was much younger than I am now, I loved nothing more that a good "spooky" story.  I spent many nights laying up in bed reading books that were designed to make your skin crawl and leave you with goose bumps. My personal favourite author for Young Adult Thrillers was and probably still is Christopher Pike.  Twenty years after reading his books some of them still stand out in my mind in perfect clarity.  The top one would be Remember Me. Something about Shari's story struck a chord with me that has echoed through the last twenty years, as any good book should I suppose. Sadly when I was a teenager I didn't hold on to as many books as I do now so I spend a lot of time hunting to replace the ones I really wish I had kept. (Sweet Valley High anyone?)
