A to Z Challenge: E


Hello all and welcome to the fifth day of the A to Z Challenge.  I have to say I am really enjoying this whole having a theme thing, much easier than pulling subjects out of thin air every day.  Here come the words.

Endemic 
Definition: 1. belonging or native to a country or people 2. characteristic of a certain area, region or environment
Sentence: Curry is not the only spice endemic to India.

Eleemosynary 
Definition: 1. of or for charity; charitable; 2. given in charity; having the nature of alms; 3. supported by or dependent on charity
Sentence: The school was exceptionally eleemosynary towards the low-income families in the surrounding communities.

Exigent 
Definition: requiring, demanding, or calling for much attention or action
Sentence: The lawyer had an exigent client who demanded his papers immediately.

 Ebullient
Definition: joyously unrestrained.
Sentence: The piece opened with ebullient bursts of energy and colour that scampered over harmonica drones played by one or more members.

Empirical
Definition: derived from experiment and observation rather than theory.

    Melissa, just this morning I felt relief all over again at picking a theme this year for the A to Z :) Truly beats freaking out over what to write every day, especially if one's writing on the fly, like me.

    I have heard of the word ebullient before. I've never used it in a sentence, though! I agree about themes--I can't imagine trying to come up with a random thing to write about each day but restricting it to a letter of the alphabet!

Making Mac and Cheese

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

When I was much younger than I am now, I loved nothing more that a good "spooky" story.  I spent many nights laying up in bed reading books that were designed to make your skin crawl and leave you with goose bumps. My personal favourite author for Young Adult Thrillers was and probably still is Christopher Pike.  Twenty years after reading his books some of them still stand out in my mind in perfect clarity.  The top one would be Remember Me. Something about Shari's story struck a chord with me that has echoed through the last twenty years, as any good book should I suppose. Sadly when I was a teenager I didn't hold on to as many books as I do now so I spend a lot of time hunting to replace the ones I really wish I had kept. (Sweet Valley High anyone?)
