Express Yourself: January 12 to 16 2015


The Express Yourself Weekly Meme is hosted Bouquet Of Books and Entertaining Interests.  This week's topic is: what's a musical or play you've viewed?

We have gone to see a few musicals and plays over the last few years, from small community productions to bigger shows and truly I love them all.  There is nothing more exciting to me than getting dressed up and going to the theater and I am enjoying the fact that I can now start teaching that love to my kids.

My favourite thing that we have gone to see in recent years was a community production of Sweeney Todd.  The cast was brilliant and I was both amused and delighted which is always fantastic.

    I love theatrical productions. The best I've ever seen is Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk, in Washington, D.C.

    I miss going to the theater! We have a huge theater here in downtown Nashville that's just way too involved and expensive. I need to explore some of the smaller community theaters...those are always a much better experience than those giant operations.

Making Mac and Cheese

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

When I was much younger than I am now, I loved nothing more that a good "spooky" story.  I spent many nights laying up in bed reading books that were designed to make your skin crawl and leave you with goose bumps. My personal favourite author for Young Adult Thrillers was and probably still is Christopher Pike.  Twenty years after reading his books some of them still stand out in my mind in perfect clarity.  The top one would be Remember Me. Something about Shari's story struck a chord with me that has echoed through the last twenty years, as any good book should I suppose. Sadly when I was a teenager I didn't hold on to as many books as I do now so I spend a lot of time hunting to replace the ones I really wish I had kept. (Sweet Valley High anyone?)
