TBR Review: Cinderella and The Duke


Never welcomed into society circles, Rosalind Allen gave up her marriage prospects long ago--life has taught her she'll only get hurt. So she's shocked when an encounter with a mysterious stranger makes her long to reconsider...

Little does Rosalind know that her mystery man is Leo Beauchamp, Duke of Cheriton, traveling in disguise to evade the ladies of the ton! Impoverished Rosalind is the first woman to captivate Leo--but can he persuade this wary Cinderella to trust him with her heart?

Not in my pile of books very long this was an interesting story.  I am not a huge Harlequin Romance fan but I find that they are great to keep around for when I am feeling sick because I can plow through five or six of them in an afternoon and then feel like I have accomplished something. 

It's a sweet story of an underdog woman and a quite bossy Duke,  though he was quite well written so he could boss me around anytime.

Making Mac and Cheese

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

When I was much younger than I am now, I loved nothing more that a good "spooky" story.  I spent many nights laying up in bed reading books that were designed to make your skin crawl and leave you with goose bumps. My personal favourite author for Young Adult Thrillers was and probably still is Christopher Pike.  Twenty years after reading his books some of them still stand out in my mind in perfect clarity.  The top one would be Remember Me. Something about Shari's story struck a chord with me that has echoed through the last twenty years, as any good book should I suppose. Sadly when I was a teenager I didn't hold on to as many books as I do now so I spend a lot of time hunting to replace the ones I really wish I had kept. (Sweet Valley High anyone?) Blood, Boobs & Carnage Blogfest

The long weekend caught me a little unprepared today and I forgot that I had scheduled this on so that I would remember to write it, a trick that usually works.  Except that for some reason I thought that the 18th was Tuesday.  :( I did not watch Shoot 'Em Up when it first came out because despite having a passion for these types of movies it looked a little on the ridiculous side.  But somehow it ended up in my dvd collection and I ended up home with a newborn baby unable to sleep EVER. Turned out one colicky baby loved watching (listening to?) violent movies and Shoot 'Em Up quickly became our movie of choice.  At 3am that opening scene is just really awesome. I can't say I have watched it too many times since Cat outgrew her colic but it's on my list of favourite movies in this category for sure.
