F is for Fantasy

As that is the type of stories I like to write.  About princesses and dragons, angels and demons, vampires and gods.  Same reality, parallel universe or completely different world this is my favorite way to write.  I'm not saying I am necessarily any good at it mind you but there is something about tackling the forces of good and evil that appeals to me as writer. 

I have an old fashion love of a story of the fight between good and evil where you truly know who the forces are and who you are routing for.  It's something that I find is a lot harder to find these days as the lines get blurred between good and evil.  

That being said I am not saying that all vampires or witches or demons need to be evil nor all princess or angels or gods good just that if an author sets their lines that person A is the good guy and person B is the bad guy for 90% of the story and then they switch it and they don't have some sort of cataclysmic event in order to make this switch plausible then it doesn't work for me.  (for something that does work see Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series no one can make a bad guy good like he can)

Making Mac and Cheese

One of my favorite vegetables is butternut squash so when Chatelaine  posted this yummy looking recipe  for mac and cheese brimming with squash I immediately pinned it to make at a later time.  Now, before Pinterest  I am willing to admit, recipes got saved in my e-mail, but they never got made.  They just got lost in the shuffle; now they get neatly organized and displayed where I can go through them on a regular basis.  More importantly than that I can try them.   This recipe worked out well for me, I thought the cheese and squash tasted great together, the kids however did not agree.  They like their squash on the side, where they can control how much they ingest.  Next time I will definitely use less breadcrumbs though.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

When I was much younger than I am now, I loved nothing more that a good "spooky" story.  I spent many nights laying up in bed reading books that were designed to make your skin crawl and leave you with goose bumps. My personal favourite author for Young Adult Thrillers was and probably still is Christopher Pike.  Twenty years after reading his books some of them still stand out in my mind in perfect clarity.  The top one would be Remember Me. Something about Shari's story struck a chord with me that has echoed through the last twenty years, as any good book should I suppose. Sadly when I was a teenager I didn't hold on to as many books as I do now so I spend a lot of time hunting to replace the ones I really wish I had kept. (Sweet Valley High anyone?)
