M is for Music

Music has always been such an important part of my life, don't get me wrong I have absolutely zero musical talent.  My kids don't even like it when I sing them lullabies.  I think my love from music started somewhere around the Grade One talent show, I remember it like it was yesterday.  Myself and a group of friends did a lip singing and dancing routine to Surfin' Safari by The Beach Boys.

I remember what most of the groups did that did songs that day preformed even though I can not recall the names of most of my classmates or more than a vague description of what they looked like.  Tina Turner's What Love Got to Do With It?  (Not my favorite of her songs I prefer Private Dancer) and of course my favorite Beach Boys song Kokomo.  That resonates clearly for me as it was done by a group lead by the little boy I had a crush on.  *sigh*  He was quite dreamy (for a six year old) and we had quite the little friendship until another girl told him I was part mermaid (I mean seriously?  I can't even swim)

Moving right along, we'll fast track to my teenage years.  I was never really into the "boy bands" that most girls went gaga for.  Maybe it was too much time spent with my parents, but I started high school listening to Jethro Tull, Bob Dylan, The Mamas and the Papas, Steely Dan etc.  In fact I think it is safe to say that to this day the best concert I have been to was Jethro Tull.

It was however in the hallways of high school, at the hands of a boy with a guitar (playing the opening chords to Enter Sandman by Metallica that my music tastes began to 'widen':

Now, I find new music to love everywhere.  When I make I new friend on Facebook, the first thing I do is check out what music they listen to.  Here a song in a movie or TV show, I Google it.  You find the most awesome and random this way.  A great example of this is local Toronto band My Darkest Days (if you haven't heard of them check them out now)

So, I could go on about this forever but I have to go so...what's your favorite music?

  1. I also agree about Jethro Tull. I went to a concert of their during a festival and it was awesome. As for my favorite music, I pretty much listen to everything but lately I find myself listening to my Dad's music. Brings back memories of road trips spent with him. Love the post!

  2. Hello, Melissa! I have a very eclectic taste in music. I love all kinds (except for offensive rap or the heavy metal screeching bands...I can't understand what they're screaming, LoL) from pop to rock to alternative to new age to Disney songs and everything in between. It's hard to choose a favorite!

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend and happy A to Z!!
